Excel Importing issue.

Exported file from DOORS to Excel, made changes such as deleting rows, modifying content of cells. These are all text cells nothing else. When I import the changes DOORS creates more rows, creates duplicates of the data, and does not delete the old cells. Any suggestions on how to remedy this issue?

In your DOORS view, add "Object Identifer" as the 1st column, then export. When ready to re-import, first remove extraneous columns from Excel (not ObjID and not your modified attrs), save-as format "CSV". On the DOORS Import form specify "as per column labels" and then define "Object Identifier" as the "Key".

In addition to Louie's response. You made the observation that rows\cells that you have deleted in the source Excel CSV file are not deleted from the target DOORS module after import.

The DOORS spreadsheet import function can only work at the object level and not individual cell level. It can add new objects or modify existing objects but it will not delete objects.

If you want the import function to also delete objects it will need to be done manually - some methods to do this

1. Replace whatever is in the "Object Text" attribute with "DELETED" in the CSV file so that they can be easily found via a search in the module after import and then deleted manually

2. Create a simple string attribute specifically to tag objects with a character that represents that the object is a target for deletion, include this attribute in the exported data. Tag objects accordingly in the exported file, import the CSV file then search and delete the tagged objects after import.
